Weather Shelter News 1 Year, 7 Months ago
Official thread for the new weather shelter

The Lowell Dog Park is just over one year old. We hope you have found the environment enjoyable and it has answered a need for you and your pet. Its success is measured each time a dog and owner pass through the leashing area and into the dog park. Whether it’s just some wandering, sniffing and marking, or a full romp with the other K9’s, our dogs are usually better for making the trip; and many times we are too. The park, to some has become an unofficial social spot for dog lovers and dogs alike. The Lowell Dog Park has truly found a niche in Lowell‘s Park System and Eastern Kent County.

There is currently a drive to raise funds for improvements and upkeep of the off leash area. This includes the construction of an open air structure to provide protection from the sun and weather. Your dog may have been one of many that have sought shelter from the sun, retreating under the benches or flower box seats after just a few minutes of play.

You may have been caught in a brief shower when instead of a quick trip to the parking lot possibly ending your visit, you may have preferred to wait out the weather. We hope a shelter will help address those needs.

Whether you’re a regular visitor to the park, or simply a person that contributes to programs and projects that improve the quality of life for our community and surrounding area, we hope you will be able to make a contribution. Donations over $50.00 dollars will be recognized on a permanent donor’s sign at the structure. Font size will be determined by monetary value of donation, goods or services.

Wow! This will be great! It would be nice to have an area to get out of the sun in the summertime (for us AND the dogs). Hopefully the donation/fundraising section of the site will be up soon so we know what we can do to help!

The weather shelter construction has begun!
Today we dug the holes for the beams. We also set in 4 of the beams.

Currently we are looking for a few people who can help out with the construction. The problem we are finding out is everyones schedule seems to conflict. The weather doesn't seem to want to help us out either. IF you could reply to this topic with your name and contact info so we can contact you for help, that would be a huge benefit to getting the shelter done.

Thanx
Andy

I wanted to take a minute and give a update on the shelter project,
We spent a couple hours on Sunday,We put three more post in, but with yesterdays rain our holes were filled with water which makes the work more difficult.
Our original plan was to have our posts up by Tues the 28th and concrete delivered on Wednesday, but with the weather forecast calling for rain at the beginning of the week we decided to move cement to May 6th and start construction of the roof on Sat may 9th.
Thanks James Carey..

Quick update:
The Posts were approved and we can proceed with the cement. The rain has slowed things down but James and Jeff (with the help if Ivan) have made a ton of progress!
